Super sturdy simple phone!

I bought this phone 2.5 years ago because I loved the sturdiness of my freebie nokia(s) but wanted something that was more updated and sleeker. I'm a 21 year old college student, and I'm known for my ability to break everything I touch. This phone has been with me everywhere and is still kicking. I dropped it numerous times (not recommended), and I'm pretty sure it's had its fair share of contact with liquids (also not recommended) due to rain or condensation from drinks on a table. Here is a list of my likes and dislikes: PROS -Super sturdy -Lightweight and one of the thinnest phones out there -Simple applications like Bluetooth, Music ID, camera, video, voice recorder, calculator, calendar, etc -Not so simple like my sturdy old nokia that everyone laughed at -I still get compliments on it after 2 years. -Easy keypad for texting. -I love to bluetooth my music and photos back and forth to my computer. CONS -The screen is flat against your face, so you have to clean it off a lot. -The screen is easily scratched -The battery life isn't really a life because I have to charge it 1 or 2 times a day depending on how much I talk or text. -Sometimes the battery cover comes loose (but that battery is jampacked in there so it doesn't actually fall out) -the internet is hard to navigate Another thing is I can't tell if it's my phone, service or the other person when I have bad reception or it randomly hangs up. Overall, it's awesome for people who are NOT interested in big fancy phones like the blackjack or iphone but still want something with cool features that are easy to use that isn't TOO simple. It's also very sturdy, so accident-prone people should consider it. Less

So HOT!

I am currently fighting with AT&T regarding this phone. It gets so hot, I actually burned a blister on my ear. If you only talk a couple of minutes, it's OK. I am going to insist they give me a different phone. They have sent me a new phone into which I inserted my battery and sim card. Same problem! Now, they are sending me a new battery. I'm sick of this. Told the customer rep today that if the phone still gets hot with the new battery, I want a different phone, or they can let me out of my new two-year contract, and I will go with another carrier. Very thin and light but hard on fingers

from Amazon
It disappears into your pocket but the keys are hard to press. My fingers got sore fairly quickly. Luckily, I still had my old one so I went back to it. I would use the A727 if I didn't have another one but wouldn't go out of my way to get this. Also, it came from AT&T locked so I can't even use it with another SIM card.

A truly awful cell phone

from Phonedog
Pro: Thin, light. Descent camera. Attractive style. Con: Poor reception and transmission. Difficult to select the right buttons. Using experience: 3 months Feels like it is going to break in two because it's so thin. Not user friendly. Went back to my old phone, I hated this one so much! I'll never buy another Samsung product again!

too many dropped calls and gets too hot

from Amazon
I'm on my second a727 because I thought the first one was faulty. Now, having the second one for 3 months, I've come to realize, this model is faulty. I constantly have dropped calls. And the phone gets really hot after just 10 minutes of talking. If you want a reliable phone-- which everyone does, do not get this phone.

Look to pre-paid

I was a ATT subscriber for years and the quality was great. However, in a belt tightening move I opted for Skype for a landline at $60/year UNLIMITED (I pay $50/month for broadband anyway) then I noticed that our two cell phones cost $81/month regardless of usage so I looked around and found TMobile prepaid and got cell phones with 2200 minutes for one year at $230. Since CA is now going to ticket drivers using phones it is a good excuse to just call when I get HOME! Less

I really don't get excited about cell phones and I generally think that most products are "ok" or "not bad". I feel that this phone is "alright", it's got plenty of features and works well. All I can say is that it met my expectations after reading reviews about it. It is very slim but hasn't broken in the past 7 months after the 10+ times that it has been dropped on concrete and other hard/rough surfaces. There aren't a lot of cool cases or accessories specifically for this model, so that sucks. The output of sound isn't all that loud, some ring tones or songs are but most aren't. All in all, I don't have much bad stuff to say about it - so that's good. It was worth the penny that I paid for it with my new AT&T plan. Please read other, more detailed reviews prior to purchasing. =] Less

Being a person who doesn't really LOVE talking on the phone but does it usually only when necessary, I must say that this phone is all that I need. Even though this phone isn't loaded with features, the ones that it does carry are useful and easy to use. Basically, this is a phone for someone who doesn't need his/her phone to do everything but clean the car. Furthermore, I believe that a review of a phone should be about the phone. My hometown is in the middle of nowhere, with no service at all, so I'm quite familiar with dropped calls, regardless of what phone I own at the time. Blame the carrier for the lack of service/dropped calls--not the phone. Less

Much better phones out there

My husband and I have had these phones for 5 months now. We have never had more dropped calls than we have in the past five months with these phones. We did purchase these phones when we switched carriers, so perhaps that is the problem. Though I doubt it. Even with full bars of service, the calls drop randomly and often. And then the phone goes into "emergency mode" and we're unable to make any calls at all. At first we thought that something was wrong with the particular phones we had, like a bad batch, because we know several people in this area with AT&T service who never have dropped call problems. So I called in and exchanged the phones under the warranty, yet we still have the same problems. Quite honestly, the phone itself isn't that bad. I prefer the Motorola, or even better the LG operating system to Samsung, but it's a decent phone with enough features for the standard cell phone user. If it weren't for the constant dropped calls, I wouldn't mind keeping the phone until I was able to upgrade. My only regret is not returning these phones within the 30 day trial period. If I had I wouldn't be stuck with all of this call frustration. I would recommend buying a different manufacturer's phone, but if you're stuck on buying a Samsung, go with one of the Blackjack's. I like that this phone is very slim, and the screen is bright. The autolock function keeps the phone from doing weird things in my pocket. The programming is fast and stable. The sound quality is generally good, though I've had a few problems. I do not like that the camera does not seem to take that great of photos. The upper right and left soft buttons do not activate on the top half; you have to hit the bottom part of the button rather hard. The phone plays mp3's, and can do so in the background while other things are happening. The music pauses for a call then resumes. But the ringtones must be shorter than 30 seconds; you can't just set any song you want as your ringtone or alarm. I am indifferent that the buttons are rather small and I use the phone with my fingernail. Overall, I'm quite happy with the phone, and glad I got it. Less
