Great Phone

from Amazon
I have had this phone for several years, and it works great. I have dropped it, knocked it around, etc., and it keeps on going.

Worst Cell Phone I've Ever Had!

This cell phone stinks. If you forget your PIN and PUK numbers and enter the wrong ones 10 times in a row because of this or go to block a number on your phone (which requires a PIN or PUK number), the phone immediately locks itself and only allows you to make 911 calls. Why? The SIM card is damaged. I...More

If you forget your PIN and PUK numbers and enter the wrong ones 10 times in a row because of this or go to block a number on your phone (which requires a PIN or PUK number), the phone immediately locks itself and only allows you to make 911 calls. Why? The SIM card is damaged. If you purchase a SIM card through AT&T, some AT&T places will give it to you for free, while others will charge you $25 for it. After searching AT&T's website and finding out about this, I'm appalled that AT&T would sell this phone, knowing that this is an issue with this phone and several other cell phones that they sell. It's a ripoff! Hopefully, AT&T will pick better cell phones in the future, instead of ones as awful as this one. Less

Great basic phone

I've had two of these phones, one red one charcoal, and the only problem I've had with them is that my 90 year old mother has lost them both. I am ready to buy another one right now. It is a good basic phone with large buttons and easy to read type, even my mother can use it and read it with no problem. The camera is a bit sensitive, but it is easy to get out of, I can't believe someone thought they had to take a picture. Volume is decent for a thin phone and reception is at least average. I get no more drop outs or call problems than with any other phone I have ever owned. The photo quality is not all that great but I very seldom use it anyway. They both held up well . I really do not have anything negative to say about it. Less

Nice phone this is my second A437; lasted more than 2yrs.

from Amazon
I wanted to continue using my car charger and this gives me a second home charger. It weighs only 2.8 oz. Its very sleek and light. I only need a phone to call people. If you want a good basic phone its pretty good. The first one still works but the screen became damaged by one of my teens (sat on it)....More

Anyway, it was an inexpensive option and most of the replacement flip phones are heavier. Less

Front LCD

After 3 months of little and careful use, the front LCD went blank except for a blob down in the lower left corner. Also we think the charger door is very fragile. Obviously we are not happy with this phone.

Bluetooth is crippled

from Amazon
The bluetooth capabilities of this phone are severely crippled. Only headset and hands-free is supported. It is not possible to connect it to a computer through a bluetooth adapter or have a phone-to-phone connection. To connect it to a PC, a direct USB cable and a Samsung software package is required.

Battery Problems

Pro: Con: We bought two SGH-A437 phones. After several weeks of full and proper charging, one had a talk time of about 45 minutes, the other about 90. While the batteries are under warranty, Sam Sung requires that I return the bad batteries before they will send new ones, a 7 day turn around. Meanwhile, I'm phoneless. Poor customer service with this policy! Using experience: 60 days Proper customer service would be provided if Sam Sung sent the new battery with the expectation that I would return the disfunctional battery on receipt. Less

This phone is pretty good, I got it because it was free with a renewal with a contract with AT&T. It does everything that I want it to do... text, AIM, play ringtones with music, take pictures etc. I have no complaints about this phone. The ringers are really loud, the phone is easy to hear and I have had no complaints from family/friends about voice quality. The speakerphone isn't very strong but then again I have a bluetooth which works great! for a free phone A+!! Less

Can I get a refund for the problems related to this device?

I admit I was taken by the sleek design, the placement of the buttons and the keys. I like the metallic red finish, and I enjoy the picture quality. I like some of the features, but I have major problems with how the phone operates. Many of my calls seem to drop. I thought this was relative to where I live, however, I didn't have any problems with other phones I've used in this residence. The reception is awful. many times I'll hear static, the caller will cut out, or I'll get crickets. While I like the size of the phone, it's a little too small for my tastes. I get hand cramps from using this a lot. I bought a case which adds some substance to the device and has been helpful, but it's not good enough. One of my biggest complaints is the placement of the antenna. I have to be very aware of where I place my hand in relation to the phone or I get a lot of static, a dropped call, or the silent treatment. I have found it frustrating that I can't put my feet up and chat. The antenna is so bad that I have found that I need to find a specific place to stand in my home, hold the phone in a certain way to make sure I get reception. I don't have any problem with Samsung: I love their HD TVs and other products they make. I sense that this phone is a turkey. I've had a RAZR, iphone and a few other Motorola products and didn't have any of the same problems I've had with this device. Less
