The "1-Minute" Review

The ever-innovative folks at Samsung have produced the SCH-r610, a CDMA slider that includes a music player, stereo Bluetooth, external memory slot that can hold up to 2 gigs and a 1.3 MP camera.

Running at EVDO speeds, the SCH-r610 offers a nice selection of features that should appeal to people who have decided they want more from their phone but haven’t yet committed to a full smartphone.

With the SCH-r610 you can surf compatible websites with its WAP browser, take pictures, shoot up to ten minutes of video, text, talk and do it all with a compact device that weighs in at only 2.92 ounces.

If you like sliders and are looking to upgrade, the SCH-r610 is worth a look.

Had this phone for almost 3 years now and has worked great up to a week ago. Good reception, had originaly bouth a HTC and had to change it twice because had no reception at home. Since a got the samsung no problems. I texte around 50+ texte a day and works great. My only problem that I started having a week ago is that when I slide the phone, my screen sometimes freezes. My only other complaint about this phone would be that when you slide it out of a holder to answer a call, if you didn't switch it to only answer when you press a buton, it would hang up on the caller. Would recommend any time. Less

I find that it will freeze a lot, and the camera stops working at some points in time. Also, when I am writing a text it likes to go to the dial screen randomly which makes me half to start my texts over! I am becoming very unsatisfied with this phone and cannot wait to get a new one. No operational problems until recently, when the phone suddenly restarted itself. Took the battery out to "reset" the and all was well for about another two weeks. Now it will not start up completely ... it goes into a continuous restart over and over. The device is now uselss. Can't find a cure, found one other user online who experienced same restart problem. For the first 18 months would have rated the phone 8.5/10, now the rating has dropped to 0/10. Less

The only notable problems would be: -its never let me send a picture message? that might have to do with virgin mobile though and me not setting it up properly or something -lately when i zoom in on the camera, after i zoom it wont let me take a picture until i restart the whole thing. that doesnt really bother me because to me, cameras on camera phones are never really that good. if you want good pictures, buy a camera lol. -after like two years, the paint is chipping a little on the keys. its mainly just the glossy clear finish that chips off, and i text a lot so im not too disappointed this happened! -the last thing is that im not a fan of the voice silencer on the phone. when you call someone it eliminates background noise so you only hear the person talking... its kinda weird those cuz sometimes you hear the background and sometimes it sounds like the person hung up or it makes the conversation choppy. thats about it though, and i know thats four things but its honestly so minor. if you're like me and just want a good, stylish phone to text on, this one is perfect for you! So I've had this phone for a little over a year now, and not without problems. Like some other people listed, my phone's camera also stops letting me take pictures randomly. I don't find this is too big of a problem though as if you just restart it, it'll work fine for at least a while. After all if you really wanna take good pictures, buy a camera! One thing that really does bother me is that I find the navigation buttons too cramped. Like, I'll go to press the "up" button and it'll press the menu button instead. I also don't like that I don't have the option to turn the keylock off. It'll lock itself automatically when you slide it shut, and so far i haven't been able to find anyway to turn this feature off. Other than that its a great phone. The battery life is good, and mine's also quite durable. I text a lot and so far nothings gone wrong with it. Overall, it is only a cell phone, and does what it's meant to do. If you want something for anything other than talking or writing occasional text messages on, then buy a blackberry! Less

Trust me it sucks big time, once it's keys get broken during texting (which is manufacturing defect) mfg. won't cover it under mfg. warranty for any other fault.

So, i've had this phone for like 10 months? I received it as a gift in April, and now its February. I have a year warranty on it still. Now, listen carefully if you're seriously considering to buy this phone. Are you constant texter? If yes, this phone is NOT for you. seriously. I text like crazy and all the buttons wore, no, broke off. literally, in a matter of 4 months. I don't text like mad, but i'm a teenager so you know, im going to send a decent amount of texts, especially because i have unlimited texting. the wearing and tearing of the keys are quote "wear and tear" and its "my fault" that they broke, because i text to much.. okay? its not like i intentionally scraped the numbers off. even if i did, they should have built the phone resistant to that. but i really didn't care as long as i had a phone, because i knew where all the letters were. so thats one thing.. now about 7 months into the phone, it would randomly shut off or restart itself. also, the camera glitches. i thought, hey whatever its nothing. but 9 months came along and the phone itself started glitching. the screen would turn white every time i would close it. I tried taking the battery out and restarting the phone. none of it worked, but as long as i knew how to get the main display back, it was fine. later on it got worse, the color on the screen faded or completely disappeared. I had to continuously turn the phone off and on to do/see anything. today... the screen does not work. period. I'm sending it in for repair, since i'm under warranty. but i still think its hopeless. i mean, if problems start arising from the 4th month? the phone just sucks. you're better off with another one. all in all.. not a phone i would recommend. SUCKS!!!

I had this phone for a little over 6 months and i have never dropped it...the screen turned white just out of nowhere!! i thought it was an awsome phone when i bought it, like obviously i would its a new phone c'mon...but let me just say...looks are deceiving!

Update - More Problems

So in June I wrote a review on my current phone (https://www.cellphones.ca/cell-phones/reviews/45927/) and I scored the phone a 7.3 due to the problems I was having, and the past few months I've been running into some more problems. So in June I wrote a review on my current phone (https://www.cellphones.ca/cell-phones/reviews/45927/) and I scored the phone a 7.3 due to the problems I was having, and the past few months I've been running into some more problems. So in the past review, I mentioned some camera problems and some over heating problems, I've learned to live with those problems but they're gone for the most part. The UI for the camera is gone, but it takes pictures now about 90% of the time and almost always it will record a video, the over heating I believe still exists, I think I tried it a month or two ago and in a few minutes it was fairly hot so I took the micro SD card back out. So here's the update. The past 3 MAYBE 4 months I've had a SERIOUS issue with the screen. I have never seen anything like this and it's extremely frustrating. If I am to close the phone, the screen will stay lit and when I open it, it will show the home screen and horizontal white lines will slowly fill the screen (getting wider) until the screen is white. The screen will stay white forever unless I open the phone, wait for the screen to turn off and I USED to be able to press a number but now I have to press the camera button. Or it will work sometimes if I plug it in or get a call/text (with the screen off and phone open) . When the screen is white, you can still navigate menus blindly and I'm so used to the phone, I can navigate through my contacts and send a text to my friend telling him to text me in a minute so my screen can fix. Once the screen is "un-whitened" I must leave it open at all times unless I want to dick around with trying to fix it, because sometimes it will stay white even after multiple tries to fix it by pressing camera or a number. Also, I've noticed now my End Call button has started to fail, sometimes it will work and others it won't so I'll be in topping up my account and I realize my end button currently is out of commision and to get out of the web browser I have to close the phone and deal with the white screen crap. Overall, I want to keep it at a fairly decent rating as this phone has seen it's share of abuse, but seriously, I can't. It's just so damn frustrating when I sit down and I have jeans with small pockets my phone will closeor something and I'll feel a text come in and I take out my phone only to see the white screen and mess with it for 5 mins to read one text. Also my friends will tease me by closing my phone sometimes when I leave it on a table and leave the room or something. Pros: - Looks nice - Easy to use - Decent Pictures - Relatively good battery - Nice keys Cons: - Screen problems (very frustrating) - Failure of "End Call" button (frustrating as hell) - Bad camera (has gotten better than before) - Some wiring problems - Inbox will glitch out when you receive a text while looking through it (minor) So, in the end, it's still a pretty decent phone. I bought mine for $200 new on virgin prepaid and it was good while it lasted. I don't know if they still sell them anywhere but I think it's time for a replacement. I don't see it ever lasting more than 2 years. Less

Good Phone But Not Very Durable

I really liked this phone because it had good features. Texting is good because it saves words automatically so they are repeated the next time you type them and saves lots of time. However, I was disappointed in its durability because the screen broke when I had it in my pockets. I paid around $250 for it so that really pissed me off. As you can see from my rating, this phone is pretty good so I might give it another chance and it's a lot cheaper now Less
