Good cellphone for it's age

I see a lot of the reviews for this phone talk crap about it. I also see those reviews were written in 2007/2008. I see a lot of the reviews for this phone talk crap about it. I also see those reviews were written in 2007/2008. The people writing those reviews bashing the phone don't realize that Samsung released this phone in 2004! It's not crappy, it's OLD!! (Actually, in my opinion, 2004 isn't old at all.) This is a fantastic phone. I have found the signal reception, audio quality, and battery life to be excellent (I've gotten 2 weeks of standby time out of the battery when I have forgotten to turn the phone off for extended periods of time). Although I have never been hard on the phone, I do agree with the other reviews that this phone seems extremely durable. Also, unlike the Samsung A740, which is basically the A860 with a camera and color external display, this phone doesn't seem to have the problems with getting hot and glitching up sometimes. Great job Samsung! You made a rock-solid cell phone that is still very usable today for calling and texting. Less

Very Durable

Had this phone for four years. Works great! VERY DURABLE. I dropped it many times. I dropped it in water. I just could not break it by accident. After four years I dropped it hard on the street while it was opened and fell on it. One hinge on the flip broke, but it kept working. The other hinge broke four months later, but the phone still worked. It just had to stick some flexiable medical tape on it and be careful with it to keep using it for another four months. The screen then broke but I kept using the phone for another month. I got tired of not using the screen and got a new phone. I tried alot of phones out, but could not get one as good as this one. I could care less about all the flashy applications that many new phones have. Also like how compact this phone is. I want another one like it. Less

this phone sucks. you have to keep it closed while your texts are sending, it goes crazy sometimes and turns itself off in the middle of something. it can only keep 50 inbox messages, no camera, no speakerphone or bluetooth. its a durable phone but it sucks. the antennae breaks off too if you use it too much, you also get terrible reception. it breaks up the calls a lot and it freezes up all the time. the battery life is good until a year and then you have to charge it almost 3 times a day. im counting down the days till i get a new phone because this phone is terrible. the keypads also wear off after a while especially if your a text-a-holic. and after the battery starts to die the green light keeps on flashing even when its turned off so that gets really annoying. if you were considering this phone please go try a new one because this one sucks Less

Can't complain!

I've had this phone for three years now and my contract is over and I'm considering keeping this phone for longer because I really have nothing to complain about! It doesn't have a camera, which is about the only thing I would want more in a phone. All I use it for is as a phone and texting. The phone...More

Not too bad at all!

I bought this phone years ago before all the fancy camera phones came out. I'd say that's the only thing I didn't end up liking about it. It is VERY durable and a great phone to have for just the basic stuff. You can download lots of cool ringtones and it has a nice color screen.

peice of crap

i hate my phone. i am counting down the days until my two year contract runs out and i can upgrade. this phone is durable and i have put it through alot of shit. but i still hate it. my key pad has worn off from texting and my screen is full of dust. it is a peice of crap

I've had my phone for almost two years now and am convinced its one of the best basic phones you can get. Of phones I've seen with the same provider it gets signal where almost no one else does. It doesn't have any fancy features, just the basics, but it accomplishes them well. There isn't a thing wrong with the setup, tools, features, etc. Possibly with the exception that T9word caps the begining of every word when texting (For Exemple, A Text Would Look Like This). Just a nuisance really, and definitly not a problem if you don't text much. And of course the best selling point, the thing that makes it stand out above all other phones: its nearly indestructable. I've dropped it thousdands of times on cement, nothing but a couple of scratches on the corners and backing. I've had a friend put her's through the wash! She left it out to dry for a few days and the only thing wrong with it is that LCD contrast won't go above 18 (it looks best at 20 but it's barely a noticable difference). I've never seen one of these with a cracked screen or any problems like that. Also, it holds up to weather well. Some phones lag if its too hot or cold, but it took prolonged exposure to -35C for the A860 to start to lag. My only complaints are the mediocre battery life. Rather it starts out mediocre, after almost two years of constant use my phone has downright terrible battery life. I get about 3 hours after a full charge before it switches to power save mode (this is if I don't use it at all). I imagine battery wear would happen to any phone though. Also, its recently started turning itself off occasionally, and crashes with over use (Text the same word too many times, hitting too many buttons while an application is loading). The internet access was also miserable but that may have been my network. All in all this phone is probably the best basic phone you can get. Less

CRAPPY

i have had mine forever it sucks becuase there are no capabilities at all just little crappy ringtones that you download which have bad sound ( really distorted )

Sexy

Durable, go hard, check ti out. i don't know how to discribe it. Got chrome??? my phone does. Rainbow numbers.! you can play funky town on it. 5-5-4-5-2-2-5-8-7-5

my 7yr old Nokia was better...

Features aside, this is the worst phone I've ever used. It fails to meet the most basic requirement of a tele-communication device. I frequently lose calls, can't make or receive calls in elevators, grocery stores, or anywhere possible interference may occur. I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone...More
