The LG VX-8360 currently has an Informr score of 6.2 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 18 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

The LG VX8360 is a thoughtful, mid-tier clamshell with an eye toward the practical.

The VX8360 features a built-in MP3 player with dual external speakers for stereo sound, a 1.3 MP camera with video recording, Bluetooth 2.1 wireless technology for hands-free access (including A2DP music streaming with compatible stereo headphones), and expandable memory up to 8GB via microSD. The LG VX8360 runs at EV-DO speeds, the CDMA equivalent of 3G.

External music controls add a nice touch and added control for music connoisseurs, while the external display provides time, date, battery life and signal strength information.

The clamshell design is comfortable in the hand and the hinge is sturdy and sure. The build materials are of good quality, as one would expect from LG.

The menu path is straightforward and intuitive, making it a simple matter to text, check missed calls, access the calendar, etc.

Cons: The LG VX8360 does not differentiate itself in any meaningful way from this very competitive tier.

My wife, mom, and I each have had this phone since January 2010, and are completely satisfied with it as a telephone. It is easy to use, a good size, and reception has been great. My only criticisms would be that often if you have gone down aways in the menu tree, there's no way to backtrack except by flipping the phone closed and starting over. Also the battery charge seem to last no longer than three days, which is a mere nuisance rather than a real problem. It is the first digital camera of any kind that I've ever had, and it has far exceeded my expectations on that front. The camera produces fine and clear 1280x960 jpeg photos, including in the unconventional use I use it for, which is astrophotography. I'm an amateur astronomer, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the great photos of the Moon and planets I've been able to take simply by aiming it carefully into the eyepieces of my telescopes. There is, of course, specialized astrophoto equipment that could do much more, but on my tight budget I was pleased that this little camera proved to be my entryway to the astrophoto hobby. Anyone who wants to see some examples may visit my blog at [...]. The video camera's resolution is much less sharp, but still useful for capturing special events, etc.. The phone has other features such as music and media files, etc., which I simply haven't used. Less

Verizon has replaced this phone for me twice, installed a new battery once. upgraded the software numerous times and it is still a piece of crap. Verizon insists "no one else" has had problems with this phone--I don't believe them! Every call I make or receive, the person I am speaking to will suddenly not be able to hear me. I can hear them but they cannot hear me. I wish I had a nickel for every time the person I am speaking to says, "Are you there? I can't hear you." I have owned several cell phones over the past dozen years and have never had a problem with reception until this phone. If Verizon does not make this "right," then after 12 years with the same company, I am ready to jump ship. Less

Requires a hidden $9.99/month data plan

from Amazon
Turned out that Verizon automatically requires a $9.99/month data plan as this is considered a "Multimedia Phone". Amazon refused to take the phone back based on the fact that they have misrepresented the information on their web site and promised to charge me $250 for deactivating this phone.

But I can't copy the mp3 files I purchased from amazon.com as mp3 downloads to the phone. Amazon mp3-download files are rejected by this phone. Bummer. I've talked with Amazon's tech support, who say they don't intend for their mp3-download files to be rejected, and can't fix it because the problem is in the phone software (it's a VCAST-enabled phone, which I think is significant though I don't understand why). I'm trying to talk to or email verizonwireless, but so far I haven't gotten through to them. Less

I have this phone, and I like it. I use it more often as an mp3 player than as a phone, and this review will only talk about music. I don't much like the process of transferring music from my PC to the phone. At first, I tried to use it as though it were a USB flash drive. I got this to work, but there were problems: many tracks showed up twice, and I couldn't copy mp3 files I purchased from amazon.com to the phone. Then I started using Rhapsody to transfer files. On the whole, I don't much like Rhapsody, but at least it's less of a pain than iTunes. This works for all of my mp3's, but it's really slow, compared to just copying to a flash drive. I've discovered that some phones are intended to transfer files like a flash drive, and some are not. Too bad I received the kind that is not. On the plus side, this phone is engineered to allow you to download music directly to the phone from an online vendor. This is not a plus for me, but I'm sure some folks will like it. I also like the ability of this phone to send high quality stereo music to bluetooth headphones. (I'm using Audiovox's ARWH1 bluetooth minibridge to receive the signal and drive a standard set of stereo headphones. It's nice to listen to music without getting tangled up in wires. You can also use headphones with a microphone to talk on the phone, but I haven't tried it. If you're interested in this, you need to make sure the bluetooth device supports A2DP.) Less

I picked up a Flipshot for the great camera but washed the thing and killed it. Thinking the VX8360 would be at least as good as the 8300 was a mistake. This thing sounds bad, opens awkwardly, doesn't vibrate enough to let me know there's a call when it's in my pocket and gets terrible reception almost everywhere I go. Even the battery life is disappointing to me and I'm NOT a long talker. LG really dropped the ball on this one. Verizon should really upgrade their return policy. Less

Had to pay $200 for this phone after I discovered my first free Verizon phone (The Knack) could not get reception in the middle of one of Verizon's largest claimed reception areas. They told me this one might be better. It is. If I move around while talking I can sometimes get 2 bars (one bar for each hundred dollars I guess). I use only the phone (yeah, I'm an old guy). Had to have Verizon block web access because I kept hitting the unmarked web access key (costing me $4-$5 each incident, even though I always shut down before actually getting connected). Discovered I'm not the first to have to do this. Large keypad and display text are good for older users. Voice dialing of stored names is fair. Battery life has been good for me. Blue Tooth with a headset works well. I prefer a speakerphone to a headphone. This is one of the worst I've owned. A 3-step process for both receiving and calling: Got a call? Flip open. Use "send" key to answer. Now hit "speakerphone" to turn it on. Impatient callers will have hung up by now, especially if you let the phone ring a couple of times before answering. The speakerphone button cannot be used by itself to call out or receive calls. Both my speakerphone and earphone reception are broken, with constant drop-outs, always sounding like I have a really bad signal (bad circuit board joint?). Speakerphone is useless in a vehicle, unless you hold it near your face, negating the whole point of "hands-free". Difficult to open the flip with one hand. I often leave it lying open to avoid having to paw at it. Side buttons preclude use of most firm-fitting generic holsters. And you WILL be hitting those side buttons frequently, whether you want to or not. LOOKING at this phone will scratch it. Software can be cumbersome, often requiring an extra step or two beyond other phones I've used (ie. setting an alarm, or setting to vibrate). If you frequent Karaoke bars, or were born after 2001, you might actually LIKE the provided ring-tones. For me, this has been a mediocre phone with poor reception and poor sound quality. Pay for this one at your own risk. Note: Reception may be Verizon's fault. It's hard to say. Their coverage is NOT as good as claimed. I'll be returning to Sprint next time around for that reason alone. Less

My wife and I got this phone at the beginning of July. We like the features and the sound quality seems fine. We are not glued to our phones all the time, so the phone works for what we use it for. The bad thing was my wife's phone would not hold a charge for more than 2 days(My phone has been trouble free). Verizon replaced it and the next one had the same issue. We tried a replacement battery that Verizon supplied but the problem remained. In fact, the "bad" battery is my phone now and works fine. Verizon has replaced the phone again(same model)with a 90 warranty. If it happens again, they will replace it again with the same model, and if it happens again, they will replace it with another model phone. Some research on the internet showed that this is a somewhat common problem with this model phone. Less

Shortly after purchasing this phone I found that even if the phone showed 4 bars when turned off at night, it was most often dead when I turned it on the next day. It's been happening regularly since then. It seems like the phone loses power even when turned off. Phone was fully charge yesterday morning and turned off because I cannot have it at work, turned on for only about 2 hours after work, and this evening it shows 1 bar left. This seems to be an issue w/ these phones. There is a pretty long thread of complaints about this on the Verizon website. If you use your phone a lot (and most people do) you may want to reconsider buying this one. Less
