What the Critics Are Saying...

Stuff

Reviewed in isolation, the Mate 20 is a superb phone. It takes great photos, has oodles of power and a long-lasting battery, a huge HDR-friendly screen, and the latest version of Android. But of course, that's only half the picture. Its bigger brother goes one better in just about every area, and de...

Huawei Mate 20, where available, is an easy smartphone to recommend. It has a great large screen with a tiny notch, a top of the line chipset for flagship-grade performance, and a camera that is among the best you can get in a smartphone today with a ton of shooting modes.

TechRadar

The Huawei Mate 20 distills much of what makes the Mate 20 Pro an excellent phone into something that’s different, though not necessarily inferior. It costs less, offers more screen and has a headphone jack. If you crave the cutting-edge bells and whistles the Pro packs, then look elsewhere. If on t...

The Huawei Mate 20 is an amazing smartphone in its own right. It boasts a stunning Dewdrop display, an impressive trio of cameras on the rear powered by AI to produce amazingly detailed, well-lit images and the world’s first 7nm chipset, the Kirin 980. In fact, the only real disappointment is that i...

The Mate 20 is clearly sitting behind the flashier Mate 20 Pro in Huawei’s line-up, yet its clever approach to the notch makes it feel like one of the best Android phones around for people who want an all-screen phone.

It takes great photos, has oodles of power and a long-lasting battery, a huge HDR-friendly screen, and the latest version of Android. But of course, that's only half the picture. Its bigger brother goes one better in just about every area, and despite being more expensive, is a much better phone as a result - so much so you have to question why you'd buy the vanilla Mate 20 at all.

It still uses a UI overlay that will be frustrating for some, but at least this time it has been streamlined. Software aside, the look and feel of this phone is simply fantastic. Granted, you don’t get the curved look that’s on the Mate 20 Pro. And you'll miss out on in-screen fingerprint scanning.
