If we were to rate the Pearl Flip against the best phones on the market like the Bold, Fuze and iPhone 3G, it would absolutely be crushed and no one can deny that. The Pearl Flip from Verizon is good choice for those who like the form factor of a flip phone and want to upgrade from their current dumbphone to something with more features and capabilities. All BlackBerry smartphones produced by Research in Motion are capable of delivering the same solution, so the Pearl Flip allows you to get in on BlackBerry benefits like push email, BlackBerry Messenger, and load up with apps which all tend to lead to getting hooked on BlackBerry. The media player and camera (with flash and video recording) make it a solid lifestyle device as well.

If we were to rate the Pearl Flip against the best phones on the market like the Bold, Fuze and iPhone 3G, it would absolutely be crushed and no one can deny that. But doing that would be foolish as this device is not at all intended to compete with such devices. So, taking into consideration where it stands in the market place, what it offers and how much it costs, we’d have to say that the Pearl Flip is definitely capable of holding its own. So what would we rate the TELUS BlackBerry 8230 Pearl Flip? 3.5 BG’s out of 5.

The people down at Saktel suckered me in to buying this phone, and let me say I will regret it until I'm done paying this stupid thing off. The texting is terrible, it doesn't adapt to how you type or remember words, and there is no way to switch to even typing out every letter of the word. It glitches and freezes (I've had it about three months) The picture quality is poor. Often very quiet when you're trying to talk on the phone. The track ball gets stuck. Less

Decent battery life and correct display of discharge not like on other brands (e.g. 3 previously owned Motorolas) where battery shows full for a long time when in reality is almost empty. Very often the phone struggles through applications.I wish RIM would come with an upgraded, faster version. It's still one of the best flip phones on the market. Less

I read that the 8220 has wifi, but the 8230 does not. So your 8230 does have wifi?

good phone

i got mine last year and i haven't had any problems. it's a great cell phone. it works great, battery life isn't bad, and i agree about carrying the phone in your pocket..i always carry mine in my pocket so it's really nice to have the flip phone so the main screen doesn't get scratched up. plus it's smaller so it fits nicely in my pocket

I am a computer junky at large and to be able to carry one this small around with me is great! It is very east to navigate, the colour is vibrant on it. I highly recommend this to anybody looking to advance to their first smartphone. Texting was a little rough at first, must say I am not a fan of the of the Sure Type feature, but once I figured out how to turn that off I was good to go, firing out texts like there is no tomorrow. Must say for the cost of the phone the design could of been a little better. A stainless steel finish would of been nice instead of the fake silver plastic one it supports. Less

Pearl Flip 8230 on Telus Pros: - Great call quality. I was really impressed. - Screen quality very nice. - Regular sized headphone jack. - Add in a micro sd card and you haved a nice mp3 player - Email set up is a breeze. - Lots of free apps available. - Very good video playback Cons: - Camera pretty much stinks. - Outside face prone to scratches (bought cheap face/screen protectors off ebay to reduce this). - Blackberry Maps (GPS) app has trouble locating satellites in my area. Nice little phone here. I'm a reviewer of games, so I'll break this down into sections. Ease of use Very easy to use. Menu easy to navigate. While it doesn't have a full QWERTY keyboard it does have half of one, so that is always a good thing. The outer display shows you not only the album art of the current song, but also if you have any text messages, messages in general, missed calls, and the side buttons control navigation of messages. Performance Lags when using the internet ( Although this could be due to not always being connected to a wi-fi network.) Screen is a nice size and as with all blackberries, the intensity can be changed. Wifi and general reception is excellent, and quality of call is clear and crisp. Features Media Player capable of picture slideshow, music, movies, audio notes. Audio nice and crisp, loud enough that you can hear music over 2 floors in a house. Alarm- Nice and loud, several options with a handy bedside mode ( will go into just a clock mode, till a key is hit, to save battery power) Calculator Organizer includes task pad, memopad, lists, calender, planner Games include Soduku, poker, word mole, typing, parachute Overall it's a nice little phone. I got my second because my first got water logged outside in a storm. Roger's ( Canada) has a 3 yr plan for $10.00, a great price for a blackberry. Hope this helped any of you. Less

Even on standby, maybe every two days...Can't wait till I can get out of this hideous contract...Rogers sales person (College Square, Ottawa, Rogers store) was NOT truthfull about cost of operating, or usability on BES, you must buy the highest priced data plan and you will definately need the 500 G plan to boot..Automatic updates used up the 2 meg every month...overtime was brutal until I went up to the 500 plan. Had to replace the first unit within 1 month... Camera is it's only saving grace. Decent photos and decent video for a cell phone. Less
