Samsung's Galaxy Tab S6 is the best Android tablet to reach the market, but it's not necessarily for everyone. To really justify its cost and its existence, the Tab S6 has to be able to do more than just be a personal video player. It has to be able to also be a productivity machine, which is something that can be used to get actual work done. Despite Samsung’s best efforts, the Tab S6 falls short.

If you are looking for a tablet that can actually replace your notebook, I'm not convinced this is it. For professionals looking for a productivity device for the road, my issue is that Android is not the solution, not that the Galaxy Tab S6 is bad. Samsung has gotten a lot right with the Tab S6, but at the end of the day it is best at being an awesome multimedia device, and $600-$700 is a lot for that.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S6 is the best Android tablet to reach the market, but it's not necessarily for everyone. This professional-grade slate supports the S Pen, Samsung's DeX productivity user interface, and a custom keyboard that connects via pogo pins rather than Bluetooth. All this screams "I can work!" The Tab S6 is surely good in a pinch, but power users may be more productive on a full PC.

Samsung’s excellent hardware is let down by sloppy software

Best Android tablet, substandard laptop

from Ausdroid

Samsung has positioned the Tab S6 somewhere between an Android tablet and a productivity-oriented device / laptop offering. While it does quite well as a tablet – albeit an expensive one – as a productivity tool, it’s not quite a laptop. Samsung’s DEX is good, but it’s not a substitute for Windows 10 for most users.

The Galaxy Tab S6 gets almost everything right about the hardware side of the Android tablet experience. In action, the screen is gorgeous, the design is tight, the S-Pen is charming and the battery life is nothing short of decadent. I just wish Samsung would be willing to put a little more muscle behind the areas where the gulf between the experience that the Tab S6 and iPad give you diverge most noticeably.

The Galaxy Tab S6 is a powerful, long-lasting Android tablet that is excellent until you try to use it as a laptop replacement. Its Samsung-made keyboard cover and DeX desktop software need a lot of work before you can truly multitask heavily on the system. But if all you need is to edit some documents and spreadsheets and reply to emails and chats on the go, the Tab S6 is more than capable. Plus, the S Pen is a truly helpful tool for those who like jotting down their random thoughts and having a device that automatically organizes them.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is the best Android tablet. That sounds a grand statement until you realise hardly anyone makes them anymore – all of Amazon’s are budget buys and its biggest rival is Samsung’s own Galaxy Tab S5e. There are only two major benefits over the 5e, which starts at around £250 less. It includes a stylus, and you can’t use the stylus with the 5e even if you buy one separately. The Galaxy Tab S6 is also far more powerful, which becomes apparent when you play demanding games.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is a brilliant Android tablet. But should you buy it over an iPad Pro, iPad Air or Galaxy Tab S5e? That’s a tricky one. The iPad Pro is more expensive, but the iPad Air isn’t even when you factor in the cost of the Apple Pencil. And the cheaper Tab S5e has several of this model’s highlights, including a great screen, high-end design and support for DeX. Still, if you don’t like Apple or its iPads, it’s hard to conclude anything other than this is the best tablet choice for those with a good chunk of cash to spend.
