8.1/10
Informr score
The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 currently has an Informr score of 8.1 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 16 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

Despite sharing the same name as its predecessor, the Asus MeMo Pad HD 7 offers a different tablet experience and better hardware than the MeMo Pad. Like its name suggests, the display is a 7” IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800. While the resolution is slightly lower than higher end tablets most reviewers agree that screen offers crisp details although Expert Reviews notes that “the glossy finish can make light reflections a problem, so movies are best enjoyed away from any windows or overhead lights.”

Behind the screen, the MeMo Pad HD 7 offers fairly decent hardware specs: 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, up to 16GB of onboard storage and an expandable SD card. Thanks to the quad-core processor, this tablet runs relatively smoothly for basic tasks like surfing the web and checking emails. However, when playing more intensive games T3 noticed a severe drop in performance with serious lag issues. Android Central also mentions that the tablet can take longer to load up apps and has sluggish scrolling. In terms of battery life, the HD 7 is excellent for its price range offering 10-11 hours of charge with constant use.

One thing that many reviewers noticed is the relatively decent build quality of this budget tablet. While it utilizes a plastic body, which tends to attract fingerprints, ITProPortal explains that the tablet doesn’t flex or creak at the slightest pressure. Under moderate pressure, however, Engadget notes that the tablet will creak slightly.

Most reviewers find the MeMo Pad HD 7 an excellent bargain tablet for budget-minded consumers. Android Police states that “if you're just looking for a general-use tablet that can easily fit in your pocket or purse, the 7 HD should readily fit the bill.”

The Good: Good display resolution, long battery life, decent onboard storage options.

The Bad: Glossy display leads to poor high light visibility, mediocre build quality.

While Darkroom doesn’t hugely stand out in an overcrowded genre, it’s still pretty effective. It does what you want from it and in a speedy manner, plus it’s small in size, proving useful to those trying to combat bloated apps.

The MeMO Pad may not be the most powerful tablet you can buy. And it definitely doesn’t stand out in the design arena. But once you get past its cheap appearance, you’ll find this 7-inch tablet offers up solid specs and an abundance of thoughtful features.

The tradeoffs in using the MeMo Pad are significant: poorer screen, slower processor, infrequent updates, lower app compatibility.

The ASUS MEMO Pad HD 7 is a decent tablet, but beyond that, you’re not getting any real advancements. It’s a simple tablet on the outside, but when you start getting into the software, you notice ASUS did all they could to make a great user experience, but in doing that, they may have sl...
