These are the wireless noise-canceling cans you've been waiting for

from Engadget

Sony’s WH-1000XM3 aren’t just a great pair of noise canceling headphones, they’re quality cans period. While you used to have to choose between great sound quality and decent noise reduction, the 1000XM3 do both while being a blast to listen to.

Room in your carry-on bag is precious and hard-earned, and so Sony has brought its A-game. The $348 WH-1000XM3’s promise to be a triple threat: the best noise cancelation; ridiculously long battery life; and all without compromising on comfort. With just a few small frustrations, they succeed.

It’s a boon that they also happen to be some of the best (if not the best) noise-cancelling headphones you can buy. Then again, they had the huge advantage of building on the excellent second and first generation 1000X headphones.

I found Sony’s prior edition deadened the vocals and rendered music unexciting. This update fixes that and goes a step further in delivering the most coherent, pleasing, and simply best sound that Sony has produced with its 1000X series. The highs are present but restrained, the vocals and mid-range have been brought back to life, and the bass is voluminous. Sony’s tuning is like a big, warm hug.

In the short time we were able to spend with the Sony WH-1000XM3 we can confidently say that it is lighter and more comfortable to wear, making it more of a competitor to the Bose QC35II in that department. The new noise cancellation chip seems to work really well too, but we’ll need to do a side-by-side test to know how much better it really is.

They remain an absolutely excellent choice if you're in the market for noise cancelling headphones. We can't see us not being happy to recommend these cans without hesitation for a third year running.
