One powerful, but pricey, streaming box

from Tom's Guide
The Apple TV 4K offers an attractive, customizable interface and affordable UHD content, but design flaws and a subpar remote hold it back... Full review

It's what's on the inside that counts

from The Independent
This is a hugely upgraded TV box, a welcome improvement on the last model, even if it’s taken a long time to come. Now, it’s the leader of the pack for image quality which is really outstanding, especially with the arrival of HDR as well as 4K and the growing amount of content available. On the right TV, this is about as good an image as you can see, certainly in streaming terms... Full review

Spiffy catch-up to Amazon, Roku

from USA Today
For those who already have a 4K TV, are a regular in Apple's iTunes store and do plenty of binge-viewing of streamed content, the new Apple TV 4K is a worthwhile upgrade that makes plenty of sense... Full review

Premium-grade 4K HDR streaming for a high price

from Cnet
Apple's 4K HDR streamer combines peak picture with a high-end feel nothing else can match, but it costs too much for most people... Full review

Apple's streaming box gets a 4K shot in the arm

from TechRadar
There's a lot to like about the Apple TV 4K. It's got a nice clean interface, and the inclusion of support for Dolby Vision sets it apart from much of the competition. Ultimately the box will be most helpful to people already invested in Apple's ecosystem, who will benefit most from its Apple-specific features like HomeKit and AirPlay... Full review

The Apple TV nobody needs yet

from BuzzFeed
The new Apple TV 4K is best for those who have already bought into the iTunes content ecosystem and were looking to update to 4K, since the previous version didn’t support it... Full review

A solid update that costs too much

from Mashable
As great as it is to finally have access to 4K and HDR content via an Apple TV, the biggest issue right now is that the price is, for now, very difficult to justify when you have 4K-ready competition from Roku, Amazon, and Google at a fraction of the cost. Not that there aren't benefits to buying into Apple's premium. If you've already invested a lot of money into iTunes content, then it may be worth it to pay the extra cost upfront (especially if all those free 4K conversions come through)... Full review

Finally, no compromises

from Engadget
Overall, the Apple TV 4K handled high-resolution films just as well as Vudu does natively on my TV. It's tough to tell how well it compares to 4K Blu-ray, which is currently the highest quality way to watch anything in your home. I'll dig deeper into that for our full review next week... The Verge

So close, so far

from The Verge
I am very confident Apple is going to figure this TV thing out. It’s the only company that has the combination of power and care to actually do it. But the Apple TV 4K’s unrealized potential just makes it obvious that the future of TV is still pretty far away, and it’s simply too expensive to gamble on in the meantime... Full review

Making 4K affordable

from Pocket-lint

Had Apple just released a box that was capable of playing 4K HDR content it would get filed under "just another way to access 4K content in a world where there are plenty of alternatives". The Apple TV 4K aligns itself with the current standards, but where it really shows off is with its single purchase model. Buy an HD movie and it'll morph into the 4K one when it becomes available - without incurring additional costs. In other words: you'll always have the best available quality, depending on what's available and what device you're watching on. This opens up a world of possibilities... Full review
