Garmin’s Virb Ultra 30 holds its own against Sony and GoPros' best action cams.

- Daven Mathies, Digital Trends

Garmin has made one of the very best action cameras on the market – it’s just a shame the battery life doesn’t last as long as promised.

GoPro isn’t the only name in high-end action cameras anymore! With built-in GPS tracking, live YouTube streaming, voice controls and a waterproof housing, Garmin’s entry into action cams is a compelling alternative to the market standard.

The Garmin Virb Ultra 30 takes high-quality images and is easy to control, it’s got great connectivity to your other on-bike tech and smartphones too. But its battery life is a bit short so you can’t just record and forget except on the shortest rides.

Garmin’s action camera might not be as well known as GoPro Hero, but ever generation of the Virb series has innovated and impressed. Garmin were one of the first to include GPS and motion sensors, and way before the GoPro Hero5 launched with voice activation the Ultra 30 was already out there.

Athletic Tech Review

Good action camera

from Athletic Tech Review

Anyone who uses sensors or data and needs to overlay them on video should buy the Garmin VIRB Ultra 30.  That is cyclists, skiers, Mortorcycle or Car racers/enthusiast, sky divers, paragliders, you name it.  If there is data you want on your video, you need the VIRB Ultra 30.

Great action camera

As a cycling camera, I’d put the Garmin VIRB Ultra as 4/5, so many good features, several great implementations, let down by there being no cycling mount in the box… That is me being a little mealy-mouthed, as many action cameras don’t come with cycling mounts.

We think the Virb Ultra 30 is a decent little action camera. It's incredibly easy to use, with a simple and intuitive touchscreen interface, plus it delivers excellent video and photo quality up to 4K resolution.

Best Action Camera

Well built action camera

from Best Action Camera

The Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 is yet another well built action camera that is definitely in the same category as GoPro and Sony. I’m really happy with how well the action camera works underwater. In my opinion, it is actually the best underwater action camera available at the moment.

An extremely accomplished action camera

The VIRB Ultra 30 is the best action camera from Garmin yet, losing none of what made previous models special whilst adding great 4K, plenty of high-speed options, and a plethora of bonus sports features.

Garmin’s Virb Ultra 30 catches up to GoPro on video and photo quality, and it's about as easy to use, thanks to a new LCD touchscreen with clear menus, as well as a user-friendly mobile app. Voice commands are a nice idea, too, but weren’t as reliable or extensive as those on the GoPro Hero5. However, the ability to incorporate overlay fitness metrics makes the Virb Ultra 30 a great camera for data-obsessed adventure junkies.
