The Samsung Intensity is a horizontal slider with a distinctive Samsung look. Closed, the Intensity has an attractive, stylized fascia with red accents and large, waved keys on its alphanumeric keypad. The 2.1-inch 176 x 220 resolution display is adequate but not impressive.

When opened, the Intensity reveals a full QWERTY keypad that, while thoughtful in its key placement and design, lack the spaciousness one needs to really rock the keypad. Texting will require some focus, so as not to hit the wrong key, which diminishes the fun factor. However, to Samsung’s credit the keys are sculpted to help compensate for lack of real estate.

The Intensity comes with a 1.3MP camera, sub-par by today’s standards, Mobile Web 2.0, and an updated music player that allows you to choose different skins, including simple view, visualize, album art, and lyrics. Also included is a 2.5mm jack. Ideally you’ll want to listen to music with stereo headphones since the mono-speaker on the back of the phone isn’t very loud.

There have been many horizontal sliders that have come to market, and the Samsung Intensity clearly falls into the lower half in terms of features and overall quality. It’s a decent phone, but if you like this form factor there are sturdier phones with higher-end features available in the same price range.

I love this phone because...

I have had my phone for just over 2 yrs now and I have not had one problem and that might be because I dont use it for anything other than texting and listen to mu music.

I've had this phone (from Koodo) for a week, and I'm going to return it today, because the navigation is just so frustrating. I rely heavily on the calendar (or 'Scheduler') function, but either the software is broken for this one, or it just doesn't work well. Once you look closer at a day to see what you have scheduled for then, you can't go straight back to calendar view - Hitting the 'back' button takes you to the phone's main page, and you have to go BACK into Scheduler to look at anything else. Incredibly poor functionality there... Also, there's so much redundancy in the texting. To pick a contact, you click contact list, you pick your contacts, you click okay, then you click okay AGAIN. Same with sending a message - You have to click okay twice, and then wait while it sends it. Trying to read a new message is ridiculous, because you don't automatically read it _in_ your inbox. You read it in a separate section, and then if you want to read a different message, or another half of the message, you have to go Home > Messaging > Texting > Inbox. I've just found so much redundancy in the navigation, and to top it off, the keys are kind of smallish, so I wind up turning on Shift or Caps Lock when I just wanted an A. Hoping to have better luck with the LG Banter Less

Good basic phone for a parent that doesn't need it for work.

This is a really good phone for texting, and phoning (p.s. if you are not using it for work, you don't need many minutes, I only used 2 minutes last month personally!) but I don't really like the screen size. I didn't ask for internet and now I find I REALLY want it! The screen is WAAAAAAAAY to small though, I may have to look into black berries! I do wish the camera was better quality, it's hard to take pictures of myself! ;D And it ALSO doesn't have a video camera which really sucks when your out with your friends. I do however like the extra fun features on the camera, like a cat mask, a merry christmas border, ext. So overall this is a good basic phone if you aren't going to use it for much, and don't need everything like me. ;) It's definatly a good phone for a parent who doesn't need it for work and just to keep in touch with their kids. This was my first cellphone, through Koodo. I picked the Samsung Intensity because it was reasonably priced for a mid range phone, and it had an mp3 player and capacity for 16 GB microSd card. My mp3 player recently busted and my wife and i were ready to take the plunge into the cell phone market, so I thought I may as well get a phone that I could play my Mp3 files on. The keypad is easy to use and the phone overall is self explanatory except for the music playing part. The manual is totally useless as far as how to get the music folder to be recognized. I had the hardest time until I realized this phone cannot read folders of music, you have to load the mp3's individually, out of their album folders which is crazy. I have about 200 cd's ripped to mp3 in their respective artist and album subfolders. On this phone you would have to put all the songs out of their folders, and it displays just the song titles, meaning your list of music will be arranged totally out of order. This is a deal breaker for me. I am returning the phone tommorow morning. Less

Turok12- I just wanted to write to thank you for the great advice on getting music on this stupid phone. I have searched the net for 2 days trying to figure this thing out and FINALLY ran across your post. You're absolutely right, the manual is completely useless in regards to this feature. Your instructions should definitely be posted in there, lol. As for downloading the songs one by one, all you have to do is open up the music folder click edit at the top of your screen and hit select all than copy and paste in your music folder on your memory card. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Vicki

I've had this phone for admittedly not long. Just long enough to realize how pointless this phone is. I truly believe that Samsung purposely made this phone frustrating and annoying. First off, the keypad. Now I'm not talking the QWERTY keyboard. I hate those things but it seems like getting a phone without one is damn near impossible. Luckily this one has a keypad up front. The bad part is that it is awkwardly laid out and causes terrible hand cramps when texting. The misaligned keys are not thumb friendly. As with many phones, this one is incapable of using mp3s as ringtones unless you download them for a nominal fee or use a workaround like an uploading site or a converter. I was surprised to find out that I cannot use my own pictures as wallpapers. You cannot access files on a memory card unless those files are put there by the phone or pre-organized into folders. Even then, if you want to view the photos you have on the memory card, you cannot see a thumbnail view of things, you just get a list of file names and a button that says 'view'. The texting system they have is god-awful. Too many submenus and pointless input boxes, must wait for message to be sent before anything else can happen or it will cancel the text and you'll lose the message. It has an automatic key lock that at first I thought was useful but grew swiftly annoyed with. You have to press 'ok' for everything or it won't take effect. Example: changing the ringer volume. You cannot simply press the volume buttons to the desired level, you must ok it too. Even then it is selective as to what ring profile it is using. On vibrate, some text messages won't vibrate but make a very high frequency beep. Those of you who know about frequencies will know that high frequency sounds are much harder to echolocate for humans. This thing beeped in my hand and it sounded like it came from my far left. If I lose this thing, I will not find it! The only thing good about this phone is that it makes calls. That is it. Nothing more. Stay away from this phone if you care about functionality and efficiency. Less

Here's an easier way: put your micro SD memory card into your computer (I bought a card that came with an adaptor so I could plug it into my memory card reader). Format the card as FAT (if it isn't already). Create a folder on the card labeled MY_MUSIC. Drag and drop your mp3's into that folder. Put the card back into the phone and enjoy!! Less
