Mobile Syrup

Great device that can really do everything you possibly want

from Mobile Syrup

One of the new devices to hit Bell’s new HSPA network is the Samsung Impact. This is a cost effective device that can really do it all.

There are many great things to say about the Impact and only one objection. So let’s start with the simplistic design of the Impact. There are minimal keys (call end/send/power, volume rocker, lock and one-touch button to the camera) and the shape reminds me of a puffier and chunkier Instinct. Overall dimensions are 108.5 x 53.6 x 13.9 mm and has a weight of only a 105 grams. The best part is the 3-inch touchscreen, this has a resolution of 240×400 and it’s honestly one of the most responsive touchscreens out there. Also, you’ll see in the video that the accelerometer is also top notch, especially when viewing web pages....

Bought this unlocked at Walmart for under $60, two and 1/2 years ago. $100/yr. for a Bell SIM card, and can roll over unused minutes until the next year. Lives in my pocket with coins and pocket knife, screen is now matte with scratches, but it works like a charm. It has been dropped, crushed, soaked and generally mistreated with zero problems to date (other than some occasional pocket dialing and surfing). Total cost to use so far is about $10 per month - what a deal! Plan to migrate to an unlocked Nexus 5, and hopefully I can transfer my existing SIM which still has over $100 of access on account. No complaints! Less

Can't wait to get rid of this.

At first I really liked this phone. I've had it for almost two years now, but I've been wanting to get rid of it after about 6 months. My biggest problem with it overall, is the fact that when I'm in a phone call, and I adjust the volume, it unlocks itself and starts pressing buttons on the touch-screen, which interferes with the phone call itself. Not to mention trying to answer a separate line is STILL a mystery to me to this day. Another problem that is extremely irritating (to me at least) about this phone is the texting. I find that the full keyboard is not very responsive, and when I attempt to type in T9 form, it will give me the dumbest words (e.g. I type in 626 for "man", and it gives me 6am instead). There is no way to clear the history of words in the phone. I was surprised that this cellphone did not have the capability to view text messages as conversations, and just displays them in the inbox and outbox folders. This came to a surprise to me because earlier Samsung phones did have this capability. I went from the square make-up looking phone from Samsung to this one, and that phone did have that capability. The camera is absolutely terrible. It does have pretty cool options and effects, but the quality of the photos are awful. Not to mention how terrible the phone gets when it goes in and out of service. My God! So many times I have been in an area without reception, going to the outdoors (where you would expect to have service). My phone even SAYS it has service, but if you try to make a phone call, it immediately says "Call ended". God forbid I am ever in trouble and need to make a phone call. I'd be screwed. Overall, I would not recommend this phone to anyone. Less

I bought this phone twice, the first time I lost it (my own mistake) I bought a brand new one two weeks after that and I have had it for a year and a half. The screen is now frozen. I am not happy with Samsung's product either, but your post has taught me not to buy another one! Thank you!

pretty good phone

This phone has been a tank for me. My only problem is when you are using the browser and the phone cant handle the website code of larger sites it shuts off. Less

Hi! I'm not really big in Cell phones. I mean I don't need music, movies ...even if the phone has it, I don't use text messaging, yet. I just need incoming calls, able to call out, call display would help but not necessary, some kind of reminder that there is voice mail and a plan with unlimited calling and incoming calling...the basics...and CHEAP. Can you help me?

Same as many others I was pretty happy with the phone when I got it (over a year ago). After few months, the phone started going nuts. It would have no signal in the places where it used to have it, and it would work in underground garage where it never worked before. Often, if you are in the area with no signal for 5 min, the phone will stay in "emergency only" mode until you reset it by removing the sim card. The buttons are way too sensitive, it would unlock itself or connect to the internet while inside holster, or it would turn the camera on and I would have some nice pictures of inside of my holster. Not good for texting and the screen freezes often. Just last week my screen started freezing more often than usual and it stays like that for couple of hours. Warranty is expired and I will have to replace just over the year old phone. Will be going back to good old flip phone but definetely not Samsung. Less

It has never unlocked by itself for me? How does the button get pressed by itself?

After dealing with the LG Vantage for a year and a bit, I decided that I couldn't handle that slider anymore and went for a touch screen phone with a QWERTY keyboard when your texting. I have never had any issues with a touch screen but after having this phone, I will probably never get another touch screen phone again (unless it is an Iphone, only because it is one phone I still have faith in) I will list some pros and cons. PROS: -Cute design and appearance, bell has some stylish cases that I use -Bright screen: you can adjust this to the way you like it -QWERTY Keyboard when texting: you can also use T9 if you prefer that -Good volume: loud ringers, clear calls -Clear calls: better than my LG phone -Good ringtone volume and quality: once again, better than the LG Vantage CONS: -The little dedicated "back" button has started to rust :( and it looks and feels disgusting -Apps: there aren't really any good apps that you can download for this phone, even though it does have an "app store" -TOUCH SCREEN: the touch screen freezes and doesn't respond, and then in 1 second it will react very sensitively causing it to do things you don't want to do, texting is especially difficult with this because you'll get in to the groove of it and then the screen will freeze and all of the sudden send a half finished text -Even though it says it cancels texts it doesn't, once you hit send your screwed -The keyboard is crammed and hard to type on, even after a couple months, this makes texting very frustrating and tedious -Camera: not great... -No streaming text conversations The worst part of this phone though, in my opinion, is the fact that it doesn't have auto-delete, so you have to do a mass deletion every couple days because it fills up. I really like the auto delete option and thought that this was standard on phones made past the year 2004... All in all, the phone functions well for making calls, and having limited media. This is no where close to being a smart phone, and the touch screen makes it extremely annoying to use at times. You may as well spend more money on a good quality phone instead of going a little bit cheaper and buying bad phone like the impact, because this phone probably has another year on it.. MAX. My next phone will be a blackberry, and I hope not to be disappointed. Nothing could be worse than the lag on this phone though, so I don't really expect much. Hope this helped!!! Less

Totally agree. My phone has gone retarded and i only got it in november! I'm getting the blackberry torch next

pictures

Just wondering if someone can tell this computer/cell phone illiterate person how to put the pics on my computer? lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am interested in the impact! I was told that the easiest way to get the pictures out of the phone is to remove the memory card and copy the memory card to the computer.

I can't get the back off of this phone to get to the memory card, but there is also a cord that connects it to the computer..

Wouldn't reccommend it to someone who texts.

I've had this phone for a few weeks now, and it's pretty solid for what you pay for it, for the most part. The screen displays images and colours very well, the menus can be navigated pretty quickly, the overall the interface is easy to use, and it includes most features you'd expect. The camera takes good pictures, and has a some pretty cool effects. However, the touch-screen keyboard is dreadful. I am the type of person who does most communicating with anyone and everyone through texting, probably sending and recieving a couple hundred texts a day. And might I say, texting is quite the hassle with this phone. The virtual buttons are very small, meaning I'm often making spelling mistakes, and the backspace button is directly above the "done" button, which, when pressed, makes the "send" button appear in the exact same place. So, I spell a word wrong, go to erase the last few letters, the phone thinks I'm done typing, and because I assumed I was repeatedly tapping the backspace button, I click the send button that appears. Oh, and once your message is sending, there's no cancelling it. I'm constantly sending unfinished texts to people ending in typos, and it's proving to be extremely frusterating. If you want a phone with some cool features that today's better phones have, but don't plan on using the keyboard much, I can't say this would be a bad choice. But I'm sure the vast majority of phone users nowadays will regularly be using the keyboard for something, and those people will be annoyed by this keyboard. I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review if I wasn't extremely irritated with this, and now I'm stuck with it for 3 years. Less

just because you have a 3 year contract with it does not mean you have to stick with that phone, you can always upgrade when the time comes, or buy a new / or used phone and take this phone off of it, and put the new one on the contract, i have done it many times.

I too am frustrated with the keyboard. I've had the phone for 2 years now and the amount of spelling mistakes I make is insane! The keyboard is too small and if you hold the back button down, it will erase the entire message! Annoying. I also text with my nails due to the button size. After 2 years and the increasing text messaging I am doing, the frustration has outweighed the good so I have opted for the newer Samsung Galaxy S. Overall, its a good phone though.

Amazing

This is a great phone, I bought it to replace my old one. It costed me $25 on a three year contract. I've been using it for almost 5 months now, and what can I say? I love it. It takes amazing pictures, has many effects in the editing photos section. The internet is very good, and it includes voice commands. The touch screen works effectively, I grew my nails out a little and it still didn't scratch the screen. As for the texting, some people many say it's hard and difficult, not for me, I use the side of my nails. The battery life is also amazing, I'm a student and I text 24/7. On the bus, during class, and when I'm at home, I never turn it off. I usually charge it every four days, and the lowest I've had was 2 out of 5 bars. And well, this is a great phone, I'd recommend it. Less
