It's obvious those below are just trying to get free minutes...

Here's the truth about Tracfone. I sell phones for a living and have activated enough of these things to be 100% familiar with Tracfone service. First off, it's pretty much common knowledge by now that Tracfone routes all of its customer service calls to a center in India. So good luck getting anyone you can understand if you have to call them. Secondly, if you're looking for feature-rich handsets you're going to have to look elsewhere. The fanciest phone Tracfone offers is the Motorola C261, and only because it has a camera. The phones do come equipped with a "rapid refill" feature that lets you add minutes directly from the handset- but it only works maybe 60% of the time. At which point, you'll have to make the aforementioned customer service call. The minutes can be pricey- the $20 card has only 60 minutes of talk time (which is cut down to 30 if you have an older TDMA or CDMA handset and are roaming). It does get cheaper per minute as you buy the more expensive airtime cards, but be warned that these cards expire after 2 months- at which time you must either buy another card or lose all your minutes. Tracfone offers service extender cards, but at $100 for 250 minutes and a year of service, there are better prepaid options (T-Mobile's $100 service extender card gives you 1000 minutes for a year). The only positive is that you'll get service pretty much anywhere there's a GSM tower nearby. Less

I'll also send you the simple instructions to follow. I've used Tracfone for quite a while, so i should be able to answer any questions you might have. ps even if you have activated in the last few weeks i should be able to get us the free minutes. Less

Tracfone is simple to use, very compact, and great for light to moderate use. I use mine for emergencies and when a landline is not available. The prepaid eliminates the hassle of bills and sudden unwarranted charges and taxes. Tracfone always has great deals on minutes; there is usually a special every holiday. If you buy this phone, please e-mail me at kac588@gmail.com. We will both get 120 free minutes through the "refer a friend" program. I will respond quick and tell you exactly what to do. Even if you have activated your phone already, I may still be able to get you the minutes. Less

The minutes on the Tracfone service can get a little expensive if you use it for non-topic-specific just-to-talk calls to friends, but it does help if you're stranded somewhere and you don't have a quarter or a calling card. Reception in my little part of the country is great; I usually recieve full bars, and considering I live in the mountains of Maine, it's pretty surprising. [...] Less
