The LG Optimus 3G is an entry-level smart phone that competes with phones that cost much more. It is touch-screen based like most smart phones and ships with Android 2.2 complete with all the applications you come to expect from Android. The 3.2 inch display is a lower resolution than some other Android phones, but it still looks great with sharp and vivid colors. The screen also has multi-touch and pinch-to-zoom functions.
Android 2.2 ships stock with no additions. There is not a lot of bloat either which is a welcome change from the many Android phones that come loaded with applications that are never used. The operating system runs quite smoothly despite the Optimus 3G having a slower processor and less RAM than higher end Android models. The only thing that really slows it down is trying to open many applications and run them all at the same time, but the same can be said for most phones running Android.
Call quality is fair, like many smart phones. There is audible background noise but voices are clear enough that you can easily hear even in a loud environment. The 3.2-megapixel camera is nothing special. It takes decent pictures in daylight but forget about using it indoors or in dim light.
3G speeds are up to par with other devices. Websites load quickly and applications download fast. Battery life is better than higher-end phones. The Optimus 3G boasts an 11 hour talk time compared to the four to five hours of most smart phones. This phone will easily go a day or more without needing a charge, even if you are using the phone throughout the day.

Its predecessor was a relatively weak choice almost a year ago, and apart from a slightly slimmer body, nothing has really improved here.
