What the Critics Are Saying...

CNET

Aimed at social-networking fans, the LG GW520 has a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen, but it doesn't quite qualify as a smart phone, as you can't load new applications onto it. This is reflected in the price, though. It's available for free on a £30-per-month contract, £17...

I'm looking at getting this phone and i don't care much about all its extra features i just want to text, and really fast. Would you suggest this phone for me?

No. A cheaper phone without a touch screen is probably the best choice as it will lag a lot less and be faster.

newfieess

I would not get this phone as I had one of these for less then a year and already the screen is not working which makes the phone non-functional.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT BUT THIS PHONE! It has been glitchy from the beginning and is really awful. Here are some glitches that I have experienced: - After using the calculator, I went to respond to a text. Suddenly the phone got confused and displayed the calculator app with the texting screen; basically, the screen got full of jumbled numbers and letters. - Several times I have been reading texts when suddenly it just deletes them without a trace. - One time I was just holding my phone. I went to put on a jacket, and put my hand through the sleeve. When my hand reappeared with the phone, the phone was somehow dialing someone. - One time I was just walking along and I looked at my phone, and it was calling a jumble of letters. It wasn't even mistakenly dialing a number - it was dialing "jbf" or something like that. I tried to end the call, but it wouldn't let me. It wouldn't even let me turn it off. Eventually, I had to take the battery out. - I'll hit the "reply" button and it will send the person I'm texting a blank message. As well, here are some things that are just generally wrong: - The clock has sped up. - Every time you go to take a picture, it plays some awful music. I have no idea how to turn this off. - The camera is terrible. - The "lock" on it doesn't work. You touch the phone and it unlocks (this is probably why it pocket dials ALL THE TIME!) - The touch screen barely works at all. - Poor design. - Takes forever to do simple tasks. For example, going into your contacts list can be a nightmare. - Very slow. - Vibrate doesn't work well at all. These lists could go on and on. Please don't buy this phone. I beg of you :'( Less

Just don't get it

Just don't, it's awful. Good for your first phone and when you're waiting for another phone, bad for daily usage. *Current Owner, saving up for a Z10*

Good phone for me

Now I'm only 14 so I can't really judge this phone "maturely" or whatever you could call it, but this phone has been good for my needs. I got it about 6 months ago and it's been performing great since day 1.

This phone... is where the universe took a dump.

This phone freezes up, has very laggy delays in performing tasks/functions, and the touch response is quite annoying, and never accurate, no matter how many times you calibrate it. The FM Radio cannot be used unless you plug the headset in, and using the radio on the SPEAKER (built-in) still requires the headset to be plugged in first! The screen will sometimes freeze, staying unlit and totally black, while the functions and touch sound/vibrations still work, although you can't see what the heck you're doing without restarting the entire phone! (Which, in most cases when it freezes like this, you have to take the battery out to turn it off!) The "LiveSquare" half of this phone is completely useless. It's like a horrible Dr. Seuss version of your callers list which can't be disabled, and I found it to be a complete waste of time. Not only that, but if you make a slide gesture on the main background or bump the annoying circle at the top of the screen (which you also cannot move/disable), it goes into LiveSquare mode, and you have to slide BACK to the main menu to get your wallpaper and gadgets (calendar, clock, etc...) back into view! There is no setting that I can find to UNDO my mistake of blocking outgoing calls, and the automatic keylock is EXTREMELY annoying! I dial a number, hit call, and if it's say, my voicemail, (which requires keypad input) by the time voicemail asks me to enter my password, (maybe 4 seconds after hitting "CALL") the phone has locked the keys, forcing me to hold the unlock button for 2 seconds just to then press yet another button to show the numberpad! (Or slide the phone open, which is annoying as well.) The camera takes very poor quality pictures, and ALWAYS makes a sound, regardless of the sound profile, the games on it SUCK, and drain the battery as if you were giving your mom's minivan a jumpstart! The battery seems to take considerably less time to charge each and every time you charge it, which leads me to believe that it is in fact NOT a Lithium-Ion battery, as stated on the label. 2 Days charge life, 30 minutes recharge time? Seriously? If you set the wallpaper as a picture on an SD card, and you take OUT the card, you have to manually reset the picture each time you put the card back in, which is absolutely retarded. The camera only has zoom when you're taking pictures, not when you're recording a movie, the sound/voice recorder has terrible recording capabilities - it records at a very low volume, regardless of the volume of whatever you're recording! The speaker CAN be very loud, but only when you're playing music, but overall, it sounds like total crap. This phone is definitely a 1-at-a-time deal, since you'll be waiting for it to finish one thing before it even thinks about starting to do anything else! Being with Telus, I will say, however, that I have had great reception, and never went below 3/7 bars, and neer had a dropped call. This is PURELY the phone, because I had a different (and alot better) phone, and almost every call was dropped at some point or another, in the same calling areas. It can also be charged from a USB port on a computer, not just an AC plug. Scratching the screen is almost inevitable, and impossible to repair, so if you are unfortunate enough to already own this phone, buy a new phone, or get a protective sticky for the screen. (Or just carry it around in 5 layers of bubblewrap - that is, if you resist popping the bubbles!) The powersave feature of this phone is arse-backwards, as the screen stays lit up almost constantly when powersave is ON, and vice versa. And THE MOST annoying thing about this phone is a toss-up between setting the clock/DST settings, which it sometimes automatically changes regardless of how you set it, and viewing your text messages in THREAD form (kinda like how the iPhone's do it with green/white conversation bubbles) As the clock on the phone might be accurate, the sending/receiving time of text messages is somehow affected by the DST settings, putting every text you receive 1 hour backwards in time, and therefore showing all the messages YOU sent at the very bottom, instead of in the order of the conversation. Don't buy this phone. I beg you. I warn you! I pity you!! (if you already have) Less

Nice phone for the price

Not the best phone but i like it.the touchscreen is not really good but she does the job,and with the qwerty keypad, the touchscreen don't have to be the best, for the price,if you text a lot then the LG Breeze is a good choice :)

It broke my foot.

I've had this phone for a couple of months now. I usually don't use SMS a lot but today I had to to communicate with someone. ... And that's when I realised how crappy this phone is. I've had this phone for a couple of months now. I usually don't use SMS a lot but today I had to to communicate with someone. ... And that's when I realised how crappy this phone is. Most of my messages wouldn't send and the "Message sending failed" popop is really starting to piss me off. My reception is good I get 5 bars, but it still won't send. The outbox has 4 messages in it at a time and there's no way of knowing which one didn't send... Also, the phone doesn't always play the music that I put in. It says I have reached my application limit when I'm obviously not doing anything else. Sometimes the camera doesn't work because when I went in the gallery to see the photos I took and I just lock the phone there, it thinks the camera is still open when I unlock it (even though the gallery is now closed). I have to go back to the gallery and press the "back" button for it to close properly. Also... I was writing a text message the other day and I broke my foot because I was going down the staircase and missed a step. ... And I blame the phone. Less

i have the same phone and its been doing the same thing i been on hold with them for about an hour now, it would work for a bit and go back to saying message sending failed.

Not a bad little phone

This is a great phone for the price - it has all the features that I need, a nice readable screen, nice ring tone selection, and a built in FM radio. I'm sure it's not for everybody, but it works for me.

I can't figure out how to get all the stuff off my main page. I just looked at it once and now it stays on there. Really, can someone help me! I tried dragging it off, but it doesn't work, I went into every setting page and I really can't find it, plus, I read the whole manual. Thanks so much whoever can help me. I want it all cleared off and just have the date or something.

I actually really love this phone

K, this is my first cell phone and I love it. Despite the fact the touch screen can be unresponsive sometimes, its really good. I got mine with Koodoo and its pretty good. I see that people are unhappy with it but I adore it. I hope they can fix it or something. Mine doesn't glitch or freeze up or anything like that
