LG Vantage review

5.8/10 AVG.
RATING

5.8/10
Informr score
The LG Vantage currently has an Informr score of 5.8 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 59 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

Leave it to LG to build a full touchscreen device that is also a slider. The LG Vantage provides a solution for folks who want a touchscreen and an alphanumeric keypad, not a full Qwerty.

This slider is similar in design to the Shine, but the Vantage has a metal body and feels much studier. You get a large, 2.8 inch 240 x 400 pixel resolution display, stereo Bluetooth, expandable memory, 2MP camera with video capture, and music player.

The Vantage is an attractive and interesting phone, offering a mid-level feature set for folks who want something more without making the jump to a full blown smartphone. Additional features include an alarm, calculator, calendar, voice memo and speakerphone.

With a talk time rated at 3.5 hours and a standby time rated at seven days, the LG Vantage adds up to a capable device that combines style with meaningful features that will keep you interested.

Amaaaaaazing!!!

This phone is like a blackberry in a couple of ways. It has a ringtone composer, just go to voice memos and assign, it's simple to use and has an easy to use touch screen.

I've read a few of these reviews for this phone and they don't seem good which is strange because my experience with this phone has been good. I've had the phone for 2 years now and I haven't had any problems with it. Everything is pretty straight forward as far as the menu goes. The only problem I've ever had with it is at first the touch screen was a little hard to use but once I got used to it it wasn't a problem. The camera quality and the video quality is pretty good for a cell phone and I like the way it looks. Overall it is a good sturdy phone for me. At this point after owning it for 2 years I'm not ecstatic about it anymore, but I'm not bored or hate it either. I am excited to get a new phone within the next year but everyone loves getting new gadgets! Less

The LG Vantage was absolutely fabulous for the first 8 months or so that I owned it, but after that the touch screen became harder and harder to use even right after I calibrated it. I've now owned this phone for a year and a half and most days I just want to chuck it at a wall. If I close the slider too quickly, the phone may just shut off. I don't even want to use the touch screen anymore, and the keyboard is too slow to keep up with the speed that I text. Most of the side buttons (aka. volume, camera button) do not work the first time I click them. So in conclusion, this phone is great temporarily! But after a year it's just a pain. Less

Pros: - looks good - nice picture quality - easy to take videos - has a touchscreen option and a sliding option - good reception and call quality - customizable home screen for easy access to functions Cons: - short battery life - sometimes you don't recieve texts until hours later - lags if you go too fast - heavy - touchscreen requires you to press very hard Overall, it's a fairly satisfying phone. It hasn't made me want to pull out my hair in frustration like some of these other reviewers are saying. Don't get the phone with a contract though; it's easy to get tired of it, especially when it doesn't have a QWERTY keyboard in these days where testing reigns. Less

Decent phone

I had the phone for 18 months and so far it worked quite well. I never had a problem with battery (7 days) or ringer volume. Overall, it is a good phone, which makes calls reliably. I had the phone for 18 months and so far it worked quite well. I never had a problem with battery (7 days) or ringer volume. Overall, it is a good phone, which makes calls reliably. There are other features, but I bought it for looks and calls. Pros: - Touchscreen is very impressive to look at and offers a lot of flexibility. It is also slow and sometimes misses an input or two. - Alarm is very reliable - 10 months for 5 days a week with no failure. - You can remove SD card while the phone is on. - Camera is very comfortable to use, but controls are complex. Cons: - It can be quite difficult to slide open in a hurry. When I use it as an alarm, I keep it open - lights shut down after a few seconds. - Going through contacts list is a pain and I only have about 50. - I never liked the build-in MP3 player. However, you can simply browse folders on SD card and start songs that way. - Keyboard is a little small and touchscreen is a little slow. You can choose to use either one when typing and ignore the other. - When you text and the signal is low, it can take a while to send it. Interupting the sending process is a guranteed way of freezing the phone. The text may be sent or not, but it will appear in outbox either way. Less

LG Vantage - THEE WORST PHONE.

I've had this phone for over a year, it was okay for a bit. Lately it's just been the worst, the touch screen won't work half the time so I can't reply to any of my text messages, or do ANYTHING. considering the keypad doesn't have buttons to use to navigate your way through the phone. I HATE IT. it's so frustrating, Never buy this phone, ever.

OK Phone

With the $10 data plan and Opera Mini Beta 5 this is an OK phone (default browser is really crappy.) You can check e-mail, read newspapers, do general browsing. With the $10 data plan and Opera Mini Beta 5 this is an OK phone (default browser is really crappy.) You can check e-mail, read newspapers, do general browsing. Plays MP3s fine, plays converted movies fine. Call quality is good; pairs to bluetooth headset as it should. The touchscreen works well and scrolling with Opera is OK. Opera goes into landscape mode with a couple keystrokes (not automatic) and the rendering isn't perfect in landscape mode but it's nice to have that option. I picked this up for $30 or something outright on Boxing Day to hold me over until Bell gets a decent Android phone and I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm no longer in a panic to upgrade -- and use up my hardware credit -- and will wait until Bell gets their act together. Less
