What the Critics Are Saying...

Google Pixel 3a is a little miracle. Somehow, the Pixel 3's gobsmacking camera has made the transition to a phone that's almost half the price. There are some compromises with this £399 Pixel: the plastic body doesn't feel as premium, the lack of water resistance means you'll have to be more careful...

The Google Pixel 3a doesn’t feel like the affordable cousin of a high-end phone – it feels more like a powerful and impressive mid-range handset in its own right, with great specs and useful features inherited from the Pixel 3 that you won’t find in many other similarly-priced devices.

If your main concern is the quality of the onboard camera - and you can live with a slightly less refined build quality - then this is a good opportunity to get your hands on a Pixel phone with a fantastic saving. For that reason, the new Google Pixel 3a comes highly recommended.

What Hi-Fi

The Google Pixel 3a brings much of the fun and quality of the flagship Pixel 3 – most notably the excellent screen and terrific camera – within the reach of many more people. But for the below-par sound performance, this would be a five-star phone. Given that for so many people their phone is their...

If your Pixel 3a has problems and is still within its warranty period, you could contact Google support or the retailer you purchased the phone from. You'll find Google's contact information here. If your phone is off warranty and needs repair for a physical problem such as a broken screen or bad battery, you should visit an authorized service centre or a local phone repair shop. There are some compromises with this £399 Pixel: the plastic body doesn't feel as premium, the lack of water resistance means you'll have to be more careful, and the ability to shoot ultra-wide selfie shots is sorely missed. Whether you're willing to pay twice as much to get those features on the flagship Pixel is your call.

But for the below-par sound performance, this would be a five-star phone. Given that for so many people their phone is their primary music player, we can’t fully recommend the Pixel 3a. Otherwise, this is a strong option at the price.

The mid-range phone that can replace a flagship

from Phandroid

You’re getting so much for your money, including that brilliant camera and an amazing software experience. Sure the device has some flaws, like the somewhat cheap plastic build quality (when other devices in this class use flagship-grade metal and glass) and a lower end processor than we’d like. However, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Google’s Pixel 3a is worth every penny, especially when compared to the competition. You’ll definitely find cheaper devices running Android, many of which have equally large and garishly bright displays, or boast similar internal specs like RAM or storage space. But none can hold a candle to what the Pixel 3a offers: an up-to-date operating system that keeps users at the forefront of Android’s latest developments, a quality camera that can conquer darkness, and a price point less likely to break the bank.
