How can you use MP3 as ringtones on the LG 8100?

My girlfriend just own a brand new LG 8100 cell phone. But now the question is, is it possible to transform mp3 from the computer into ringtones ? The telus's sellers say yes but don't know how ...

K, So Telus is an awful corporation that wants u to buy all my freaking ringtones for 3 dollars + download fee. Boo to that.
So this is what i did;
I went to the telus mobility online store.
I bought a USB data cable (29.99) online. It got to my house in 3 days.
I installed the stupid modem driver (don't be fooled by the - 'this is to connect your laptop to a hotspot' bs. Just do it).
Get a program like BitPim (it's free)
You can add ringtones to your phone with the program without too much difficulties. I now have 8 new ringtones that i converted/shortened using bitpim on my phone.

And i am happy.

Telus doesn't want you to know.
But I do.
Peace and have fun.:middlefinger:

If your a telus customer, you cannot use any telus song you download off the telus site or WAP browser on your phone as a ringtone. Using Bluetooth to send files back and forth to your phone should work but Telus does block the use of mp3 ringtones on the clients phone!! I have this phone and work for Telus and so far I have to say NO on using MP3 as ringtones on this phone. I just got the phone and haven't tried using MP3's as ringtones but this phone has very limited options for ringtones compared to other LG phones that Telus carries. They want you to buy ringtones instead of making your own, sorry to say that.

Hi ladalle,

Unless ther is a way to plug that card in your phone, there isn't a way to transfer ringtones over.

If your laptop has Bluetooth, you can try to search for a device, make sure the bluetooth on your phone is one and connect to it and transfer files (ringtones in your case). It should show up as a new icon/device under My Computer once it is connected.

Hi Cy ,

thanks for your reply! The phone came with a little card like camera to put mp3 from the computer to the phone with a USB key. We're able to put mp3 on the card but we can't put them into ring tones. When you talk about bluetooth, can I use the one I got on my laptop ?

Hi ladalle,

You most certainly can move MP3's to the phone and use them as ring tones. There are 2 ways you can do this. First way is using bluetooth and transfer the files to your cell phone, you will require a bluetooth USB dongle (costs about 20-40 dollars USD)to plug into your computer and turn on bluetooth on your cellphone and transfer the files (You may need software to do this)

The other way is buying a data cable that plugs into your phone and computer to transfer the files (this may be a little harder to find as bluetooth is very popular and efficient these days)

I would ask the company you bought your phone from and ask them if they have the data cable or dongle and the software needed to transfer files to your phone. Hope this helps.
